ARDTORNISH GARDENS

Some butterflies to be seen

in and around the garden

One of the best places to see butterflies and moths here is along the east side of Loch Aline between the Rannoch bridge and the fossil burn. The roadside verges have a very varied flora and there are flowers in bloom from spring to autumn. Different species can be seen in the many other habitats to be found at Ardtornish. I am a beginner at identifying butterflies and moths so I hope I have all the following correct.

Painted LadyRed AdmiralPeacockSpeckled WoodScotch ArgusMeadow Brown

These are all very common here. I would have included the even commoner Cabbage White but, after years of it eating my crops, I refuse to take its picture! Left to right and top to bottom are:-

  1. Painted Lady.
  2. Red Admiral.
  3. 6. Peacock.
  4. Speckled wood.
  5. Scotch Argus.
  6. Meadow Brown.
